Sandend (known locally as Sanine) is a small fishing village, dating back to 1624. Situated 2.5 miles west of the Aberdeenshire town Portsoy and 2.5 miles east the Moray town Cullen.
The village hosts a beautiful long sandy beach which is popular with holiday makers, families, surfers and water sport enthusiasts. Surfers are known to travel from all over the country to ride the waves that have been regarded as being among the best waves in the country.
There is a small characteristic harbour with crystal clear water which is surrounded by a cluster of charming, quaint fishing cottages and picnic benches.
The Moray Firth is home to about 200 bottlenose dolphins that can often be seen from the shore.
If you are lucky and the conditions are right, you may be able to see the Northern Lights. The aurora has often been seen from the coastline which faces north across the dark sea at night.
Glenglassaugh Distillery is located a short walk away on the edge of Sandend Bay.
A mile to the west along the coastal path is the dangerous ruin of Findlater Castle, which sits on top of a spur projecting from the cliffs. A short walk along the coastal path from Findlater Castle is the secluded Sunnyside beach.
There is a small working fish merchant in the village where you can purchase freshly caught fish and shell fish.
Sandend Caravan Park has a small shop which sells bread, milk, newspapers and ice cream.
The local coastal towns of Portsoy and have medium sized Co-op supermarkets for your amenities and a small selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and take-aways. Larger grocery supermarkets are available in Buckie (10 Miles) and Banff (10 miles). Both ASDA and Tesco deliver to Sandend.
